Fall Leaf Colours

Golden Lake

Spectacular October evening as the golden sun reflects on the lake taking in the greenish-gold leaves.

Blue Morning at Horseshoe Bay

Blue, converging clouds and mountains - 7:00 am September morning

Tofino Sunset - Late August

These amazing colours remind me of some of the paintings by Roy Henry Vickers. This was taken in Tofino a couple of years ago in August. Tofino is located on the westcoast of Vancouver Island where Roy Henry Vickers has an art gallery

Stealth - Wolf in Snow Forest ***

 4 x 2 Acrylic on Canvas

This painting was inspired by Robert Bateman.

Robert Bateman is well known Canadian artist who traveled and painted some amazing wildlife in the Americas, Africa and Asia

Wolf Art

I was fascinated by wolves, I sketched a few and painted this one (2 by 2 foot) in acrylic. I studied their movement, bone structure and expressions.

This is my initial sketch and painting.

Tribute to Emily Carr ***

This is an Emily Carr painting I imitated to better understand her perception of colour, movement and light. I also enjoyed Emily Carr’s journal “Hundreds of Thousands” . As she walked the forests of coastal British Columbia, one gets a sense of how she perceived the landscape. It’s a combination of light, the forest canopy, the sky, the colours and other attributes of nature she felt. Emily Carr was an extraordinary Canadian with a phenomenal visual vocabulary. She wrote:

“It is wonderful to feel the grandness of Canada in the raw, not because she is Canada but because she's something sublime that you were born into, some great rugged power that you are a part of”

Mt. Baker Sunrise - October Sky

Posted by Picasa

This photo title reminded me of the "October Sky" movie.  Its about four boys in the 1950's growing up in a US mining town. Social circumstances were forcing them to become miners like their fathers and their grandfathers before them, but they dared to dream after seeing the Russian Sputnik ( the first earth orbiting satellite). They wanted to fly and make a rocket, the rest is history. Based on a true story, I will say no more because it is a movie worth watching. Inspirational for your kids, who dare to dream.
